DESCRIPTION:New York State Agritourism Conference to Bring Industry Leaders Together in Geneva This NovemberGENEVA, N.Y. — Farmers, tourism professionals, educators, and community leaders from across New York State are invited to attend the New York State Agritourism Conference on Wednesday, November 4, and Thursday, November 5, in Geneva, New York. Hosted by the Cornell Cooperative Extension Agritourism Program Work Team, the two-day conference will provide valuable educational opportunities, networking, and practical tools for individuals interested in developing, strengthening, or expanding agritourism enterprises.The conference will feature two educational tracks, more than 18 expert speakers, and representatives from New York’s agricultural and tourism industries. Attendees will gain insights into current trends, innovative business strategies, marketing opportunities, visitor engagement, and sustainable growth practices that support successful agritourism operations.A highlight of the event will be an evening regional networking reception designed to foster collaboration and strengthen partnerships across sectors. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet and connect with Taste NY vendors who produce and market agricultural products grown and made throughout New York State.“New York’s agritourism industry continues to play a vital role in supporting farms, local economies, and rural communities,” said conference organizers. “This conference offers a unique opportunity for attendees to learn from industry experts, share ideas, and build relationships that will help drive future success.”On the second day of the conference, attendees will choose from one of two immersive learning experiences:Agritourism AccessibilityParticipants will attend a two-hour educational session exploring accessibility in agritourism, including an overview of accessibility principles, key requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and practical strategies for creating welcoming experiences for visitors of all abilities.Following the classroom session, attendees will travel to Muranda Cheese Company for a guided tour and cheese tasting experience. Participants will learn about the company’s operations and discover how accessibility measures have been integrated to better serve customers. Attendees are responsible for providing their own transportation to the farm.Product DevelopmentThis two-hour session will introduce attendees to the resources and expertise available through the Cornell Food Venture Center. Participants will learn how entrepreneurs, food producers, and startups can successfully bring food products to market.Topics will include idea generation, recipe development, food safety requirements, regulatory compliance, processing, packaging, labeling, and commercialization strategies.
