Tractor Safety Course

CCE Madison County and CCE Onondaga County 4-H program's are offering youth ages 14 and older an opportunity to be certified for farm employment, which would include the operation of farm tractors and machinery. The Hazardous Occupations in Agriculture Law requires youth ages 14 to 16 must have at least 24 hours of safety instruction in order to operate a tractor and machinery on a farm other than that owned by their parents. The program will take place April 22, 23, and 25, 2024.

To successfully complete the program, participants must attend all sessions and pass both a written exam and a practical driving test. Upon successful completion of the test, participants will receive a certificate from the Department of Labor. Employers are required by law to ask for this certificate before hiring a 14 or 15 year old to work on their farm.

The Schedule is as follows:

Session 1: Monday April 22, 8:30AM to 3:00PM (CCE Madison and SUNY Morrisville)

Session 2: Tuesday, April 23, 8:30PM to 3:00PM (CCE Madison)

Session 3: Thursday, April 25, 8:30PM to 3:00PM (Caz Equipment)

• Youth who are 14 and 15 years of age are required to have their safety certificate before being employed to work on farms.
• A fee of $30.00 per enrolled 4-H member, and $40.00 per non-enrolled participant in order to cover cost of materials used in the course. Participants are required to attend all (3) of the training sessions to receive their certification.
• Acknowledgement of Risk Form must be filled out for all participants.
