This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled professional who is energized by environmental stewardship, community education, and building innovative projects that strengthen the health and resilience of Onondaga County’s natural landscapes.

If you’re someone who can inspire a team, build strong partnerships, write compelling grants, and enjoy translating science into meaningful community impact, we want to meet you.

About the Role

The Natural Resources Team Leader serves as CCE Onondaga’s lead subject-matter expert—shaping the vision, direction, and implementation of a broad portfolio that includes forestry, watershed education, invasive species outreach, community greening, and climate-focused initiatives.

In this role, you will:

  • Foster collaborations with local and regional organizations, municipalities, Cornell University resources, volunteer networks, and community stakeholders.
  • Oversee program budgets, reporting, compliance, and staff development.
  • Lead or guide hands-on, evidence-based educational activities, community workshops, and public outreach.
  • Ensure programs align with CCE mission, county priorities, and emerging environmental needs.

This position blends leadership, strategy, fundraising, and meaningful field-based engagement. No two days are the same—and that’s part of what makes this role rewarding.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Two (2) years volunteer or related work experience.
  • Valid NYS Driver License and the ability to meet travel requirements association with this position.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

What We’re Looking For

A strong candidate will bring:

  • Proven experience in natural resources, environmental science, forestry, watershed management, conservation, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated success in grant writing and fund development, ideally with government, foundation, or corporate partners.
  • Leadership skills that support collaboration, motivation, and team culture.
  • Excellent communication abilities—both written and verbal—with the capacity to translate complex concepts for public audiences.
  • Project management strength, including budgeting, reporting, and program oversight.
  • A commitment to equity, inclusion, and community-centered education.

Candidates who are strategic thinkers, relationship builders, and enthusiastic problem solvers will thrive in this role.

Why Join CCE Onondaga?

  • Opportunity to shape innovative environmental and climate programs with real community impact.
  • A collaborative, mission-driven culture that values creativity and continuous learning.
  • Strong connections to Cornell University resources and statewide Extension networks.
