Join us at CCE Onondaga for the 2023 Greenhouse & Growers School with experts and educators from across New York State!. The full-day in-person program on January 18th will allow attendees to earn NYS DEC Pesticide Recertification credits.

1:00pm 2:00pm: “Trends, New Flowers & Vegetables, and Marketing Ideas You Can Steal,” Sue Adams, President of New York State Flower Industries -- Sue will demonstrate how marketing new flowers and vegetables can integrate gardening trends for 2024 and share some of her ideas for this spring.

Sue Adams is vice president of Adams Greenhouses, a five-acre operation in Poughkeepsie, NY. She is an award-winning container designer, a graduate of Cornell University, and author of the book, “What Do Your Flowers Say Today?” Sue collaborates closely with the marketing department of Adams Fairacre Farms, contributing ideas for their weekly flier and enriching website content and social media with engaging articles and blogs. Sue is president of New York State Flower Industries and serves on the Northeast Greenhouse Conference board (president emeritus). Sue spends much of the summer visiting trial gardens and is delighted to share her favorite new flower varieties

2:00 pm – 3:00 pm: –-“Integrated Pest Management and Berries.” Anya Osatuke, Small Fruit Extension Specialist Cornell CALS

     Anya Osatuke (M.S. Cornell University, '20) is a member of Cornell Cooperative Extension's Harvest NY Team and works in collaboration with the New York State Berry Growers Association. She serves berry and small fruit growers in Western New York (the regions Western New York, Southern Tier, Finger Lakes, and Central New York). Anya's specializations include berry quality, Integrative Pest Management (IPM), and uncommon berry crops. She is assisting in a study evaluating exclusion netting as a means of insect pest control in blueberry and is a collaborator in a study comparing Anaerobic Soil Disinfestation (ASD) as an alternative to chemical fumigation for strawberry plantings. Anya also helps maintain the Berry Diagnostic Tool and writes for the Cornell Berry Blog.

3:15 – 4:15 pm: “Native Plants? The What, Why, & How of a successful native plant department in your business.” Ballantyne Gardens of Onondaga County

DEC credits are available for the morning sessions. The cost to attend the grower school is $75/person. This is an in-person-only event. There will be networking opportunities and refreshments during the breaks and lunch. Payment is required at the time of registration. Registration is required by January 15th. Please include your DEC ID in your registration to receive credits. There is a $10 discount for verified New York State Flower Industries members. Please enter CODE= NYSFI when registering.
