Janet has a Masters of Science in Environmental & Evolutionary Biology from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and a Bachelors of Science from Columbus State University.Originally from the south, her first job after graduate school was researching pest resistance in forage crops at Louisiana State University’s Agricultural Rice Research Station in Crowley, Louisiana. Since then, she has worked in a variety of roles in higher education as director of grant-funded programs, lecturer, and researcher.In these roles she gained experience in managing projects & people, setting priorities based on strategic goals and available resources, collaborating on cross-unit initiatives, working with diverse stakeholders, communicating activities and outcomes, small business development, and grant-writing. Having benefited from interactions that range across cultures, backgrounds, and life circumstances, Janet works to include multiple perspectives and to empower others.She believes that creativity, determination, hope, and scientific research are the keys to developing sustainable practices and building resilient environments.
As Agriculture Team Leader, Janet is excited about opportunities to develop programming that is accessible to and meets the needs of individuals in the agricultural community. She appreciates being part of the process that communicates Cornell’s research findings to the public and that develops viable economic avenues for local agriculture.
