This is Part 1 of a grant writing workshop series that will focus on writing proposals for the Beginning Farmer Grant Program & NYS Grown and Certified Program administered by the New York Farm Viability Institute (NYFVI).

I. Beginning Farmer Grant Program
"Administered by the New York Farm Viability Institute, the Beginning Farmer Grant Program’s goal is to assist beginning farmers with the financial costs associated with the creation or expansion of a new farm operation. The program will award grants to for-profit farm businesses operating within New York State that are start-ups or have been in business for less than ten years.
Farmers who have not operated a farm for more than 10 years and who will materially and substantially participate in operating the farm within the State are eligible to submit proposals.
This program provides funding for:
--New York Farm Viabilty Institute (NYFVI)
The Request for Proposals (RFP) will be open from October 25, 2024 through January 24 2025.
II. The NYS Grown & Certified ITRD program for food producers is now open:
"This program seeks to strengthen the businesses that produce, process, or distribute NYS G&C food or beverage products. All projects selected for funding must implement new and innovative practices or approaches to meet industry needs and consumer demands. Additionally, all projects must have a direct and timely benefit to NYS Grown & Certified participants and significance to the region. All projects must be based in NYS. Statewide Priority Areas Projects must focus on one of the below statewide priority areas: • Distribution capacity enhancement • Processing and packaging • Production automation and labor efficiency."
Proposals are due February 28, 2025 for the ITRD
Part 1 of this workshop series will walk you through the process of getting ready and starting to write a grant proposal for your beginning farm operation goals.

Part 2 of this workshop series, will be on December 16th to Review and Refine Your Proposal from 9 am - noon. This workshop will build upon work accomplished by participants on Dec 2, 2024.
Registration for Part 2 will open on Dec 2, 2024 and is $25.
