Tractor Safety Certification Program for Youth

CCE Madison County and CCE Onondaga County 4-H Programs are offering youth ages 14 and older the opportunity to become certified for farm employment, which includes operating farm tractors and machinery. According to the Hazardous Occupations in Agriculture Law, youth aged 14 to 16 must complete at least 24 hours of safety training before operating tractors and machinery on farms that are not owned by their parents. The program will be held from May 1-4, 2025.
Important Information:
- Youth aged 14 and 15 are required to have their safety certificate before being employed to work on farms.
- The program fee is $30.00 per enrolled 4-H member and $50.00 per non-enrolled participant to cover the cost of materials used in the course.
- Participants must attend all training sessions to receive certification.
- An Acknowledgement of Risk Form must be completed by all participants.
To successfully complete the program, participants must attend all sessions and pass both a written exam and a practical driving test. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate from the Department of Labor. Employers are legally required to request this certificate before hiring any 14 or 15 year old to work on their farm.

Schedule:
Session 1: Thursday, May 1 – 5:30 to 8:30 PM (CCE Madison)
Session 2: Friday, May 2 – 5:30 to 8:30 PM (CCE Madison)
Session 3: Saturday, May 3 – 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM (CCE Madison)
Session 4: Sunday, May 4 – 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM (Location TBD)
