Public Presentations
4-H Public Presentations is a program in which youth learn to create a presentation and develop the skills needed to present it before an audience. They learn about the research process and the steps needed to organize information into an interesting and creative presentation.
Youth learn about the varied purposes of presentations and how to tailor their presentations appropriately to fit their intentions. Beginners are encouraged to select simple topics with which they are extremely comfortable, so that the presentation process is the focus of their learning without the stress of learning about an unfamiliar topic.
As youth progress and grow each year, they are challenged to try one of the more difficult types of presentations, to use more advanced technology in their presentations where appropriate, and to venture into unfamiliar topics or presentation styles.
Youth choose a topic of interest, research the topic, and present the topic. Individual presentations, demonstrations, or team presentations are the types encouraged. Some clubs have the topics presented to their club, and then Public Presentations are done for Onondaga County in early spring.
Any 4-H member can present.
Produced In New York Presentations
- Produced
in New York is an experiential cooking program offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension
of Onondaga County’s 4-H Youth Development Program.
- The 4-H
Produced in New York is a demonstration presented by youth to portray their
cooking techniques. They will choose a recipe using an ingredient produced in
New York (i.e., apples, corn, tomatoes etc.).
- They will
be evaluated during their demonstration and on their final product. Evaluators
will not be tasting the dishes. Any participants that choose to attend the
event in-person are responsible for bringing in and carrying out their own
utensils, hotplates, display dishes, and any other ingredients that they will
need.
- This
experience will help the participants learn skills to prepare and present
cooking techniques for evaluation. This program will help participants develop
hands-on experience of food preparation and presentation skills. Participants
will also have a chance to learn the importance of organization and time
management.
